]]>As someone who had previously stood in the huge queues at Rough Trade for 5 to 6 hours to get some of the items and to find that a lot were sold out as only a few copies available only to find out when returning home that multiple copies on sale through ebay at 4 or 5 times the advertised price .
What should be a great promotional device for the growing reintroduction of vinyl has turned into a bit of a farce .Why make these releases in such small quantities it would appear the Major labels have hijacked the event using it to promote major artists which goes against the independent label idea that was first important in setting up this annual event .
Indeed many smaller labels are unable to get their own records pressed up because the majors are utilising all the pressing plants for their own means and are able to offer more clout .I did not take part this year at all as i think it has outgrown its small origins and is mainly putting monies into the major labels back catalogues .Do the likes of ,Deep Purple ,David Bowie ,Genesis and even to a certain extent the Sex Pistols need to put out countless reissues of easily obtained songs ??
